As a new school year fast approaches, we often get asked “How do my kids catch the bus?”, “Am I eligible for a Bus Pass?” or “Do I need to reapply for a new bus pass?” To help answer your questions we’ve put together some helpful guidelines to assist with your enquiries
Catching the School Bus
To travel on school bus services, students will either need a Bus Travel Assistance Card (Bus Pass) or a TransLink GO Card. All KBL Bus Services are cashless and therefore Drivers are not accepting cash payments for bus fares or for Bus Card top-ups. All KBL School Bus Services and timetables can be found on our website by clicking here; or alternatively you can contact our Head Office for further school travel information, T: 1300 287 525.
Renewing Bus Passes
If students have a 2021 bus pass, it will remain current until the end of February 2022, however it will need to be replaced prior to this date. New bus passes will be available for collection on Monday, 10th January 2022 from our Head Office at 2 Motorway Drive, Burpengary.
Bus passes are automatically renewed for the new school year, so you only need to apply if you are:
– A student transferring from Primary to High School
– Changing school, address and/or name, or
– Applying for the first time
Bus Travel Assistance Card Application
Eligibility: There are two types of travel assistance options, “Bus Travel Assistance” which is based on distance from your closest public school and “Safety Net Assistance” which is based on concession and pension cards. For further information regarding the eligibility criteria, please click here.
Paperwork: If you believe you’re eligible, the correct paperwork will need to be completed either online or at our Head Office in Burpengary. We recommend submitting this paperwork during December 2021.
Processing: Our annual bus pass application period is a very busy time and can take up to three weeks for processing.
Collection: Student Bus Passes will be available for collection on Monday, 10th January 2022. We encourage all parents to visit our Head Office nice and early in the New Year to avoid delays.
TransLink Go Cards
A payment option for school bus travel is the Translink GO Card system. If you are not eligible for one of the below transport assistance schemes, you can still get discounted daily fares by using a Go Card. These cards are available for purchase from your nearest Train Station and some local news agencies.
This is just a quick guide to the school bus pass system so if we haven’t specifically answered your question, please contact the team today.
